WHY THE CENTRE REGION?
The Centre Region geographically connects the Northern Region to Lisbon and, as such, can be served in the North by the airport of Oporto and in the South by the airport of Lisbon, each one of them at about 1h to 2h distance.
Given its size, it is naturally a region with a lot of diversity that is worth exploring.
On the one hand, the inland, where the Schist and the Historical Villages stand out, as well as cities where modernity meets tradition – Coimbra, the city of Students, is a good example. On the other side, a vast coastline also rich in history, such as the towns of Óbidos, Alcobaça or Batalha and cities like Nazaré or Aveiro (known as the Portuguese Venice).
UNESCO also discovered the historical importance of this region, classifying it as World Heritage – the Monasteries of Alcobaça and Batalha, the Convent of Christ in Tomar and the University of Coimbra.
Among mountain ranges, rivers and valleys, ideal spots are found for the practice of adventure sports, such as rappelling, climbing, rafting, canyoning or mountain biking. On the coast, surf stands out with the perfect waves of Peniche or the giant waves of Nazaré.
For those looking for the pleasures of the gastronomy, diversity is the keyword – from the fish stews of the coast to Bairrada’s roasted piglet and never forgetting the conventual pastries.
