Why Oporto and Northern Portugal?

Oporto, a World Heritage City, is the biggest entrance and starting point for a trip to discovery the region’s natural and cultural diversity.
Worldwide recognized by its architecture – where names such as Álvaro Siza Vieira and Souto Moura are distinguished, both Pritzker Architecture awards winners – and also by a heritage that combines the antiquity of churches and monuments, such as the Sé or the Church of S. Francisco, with the contemporaneity of striking buildings such as Casa da Música or the Serralves Museum.

The northern region of Portugal is part of the Alto Douro Vinhateiro, the oldest vineyard region of the world, where the famous Port wine is produced, crossed by the Douro River that runs through the quaint landscape classified as a World Heritage by UNESCO.

In this region of mountains and natural parks, the heritage spreads through castles, such as the one from Guimarães (Cradle of Portugal and UNESCO Heritage) and by sanctuaries and churches such as the ones from Braga, Viana do Castelo or Lamego.
It is in this region that we find the best examples of Baroque Art and Romanesque Architecture in Portugal. It is also here that we find authentic Portuguese people, the ones who genuinely likes to welcome, to share their table and their traditions.
