Why Algarve?
Algarve is the region located in the extreme south of the country and its capital Faro is the entrance (through Faro Airport) and the starting point for discovering a 200km coastline, the mildest climate and the lowest rainfall levels in the country.
The region is divided into two zones: the Barlavento (Western zone – between Vila do Bispo and Albufeira) and the Sotavento (Eastern zone – between Loulé and V.R. Santo António). Interestingly, the coastline also differs in these two areas.
The Barlavento offers beaches made of large cliffs and the Sotavento offers flat beaches and dune strands.
It is in the Sotavento that you’ll find the Natural Park of Ria Formosa, with an extension of 60km, along which are formed several channels full of marine life (bivalves and migratory birds) and paradisiacal islands.
Golf is, without a doubt, an excellent complement to the tourist offers in the region, with several courses awarded internationally.
When it comes to gastronomy, fresh fish and seafood stand out, with the Cataplana being the main specialty of the region. Almond and fig candies or carob tart are also very popular.
