Why Azores?
The 9 islands of the Azores archipelago are located in the North Atlantic, 1600km west of Lisbon. The archipelago is divided into 3 groups: Eastern (São Miguel and Santa Maria); Western (Corvo and Flores) and Central (Terceira, Graciosa, São Jorge, Pico and Faial). São Miguel is the largest island and Ponta Delgada the capital, which is also the main gateway to the destination (Ponta Delgada airport).
The islands of the Azores are of volcanic origin, of which there are several traces: fumaroles and boilers. In the subsoil, more than 300 volcanic cavities in the form of caves, rocks or crevices are marked. An immense world to discover as far as geology and volcanology are concerned.
With a unique Marine Biodiversity, the observation of Cetaceans, diving, sport fishing or even surfing meet unique conditions here.
Pure nature offers a wide range of outdoor activities: mountain biking, horseback riding, hiking, canoeing, canyoning or bird watching.
For food lovers, fish and seafood, especially tuna and limpets, Terceira’s top sirloin, Cozido das Furnas and cheese are some of the specialties not to be missed.
